"You should write that down. People will read it." I don't think this stranger knew that those words were exactly what I needed to hear. I had just shared my birth and postpartum story with a group of pediatric residents at the hospital. They asked questions, I answered and felt quite strange being the source of information for people who had done about twice the schooling I had. Not to mention that they save lives and help kids grow and I mostly look at spreadsheets and pump breastmilk. (Shout out to all the people washing bottles all over the world at this very moment.)
I had been putting off making a blog for a long time, honestly about a decade. I didn't want to be like every woman on Pinterest with my travels and recipes and links to things you should buy because this essential oil solves all your problems. And now it's even worse. I'm a mom who takes photos and works part-time and wants to start a blog. (Insert massive eye roll from 22-year-old Katie who swore she would never be this woman. Apologies, former Katie. You really used to be so cool.)
At the least, it's a place to write about the best and mundane things in life in an attempt to not forget them. At most, someone will read this and relate, get a good idea, learn something new. I don't care about making money or followers. I am not a professional writer and there will probably be lots of grammatical errors and rambling. I don't really care about any of that.
I care about the one person who experiences "ghost baby" when they wake up in the middle of the night and thought they were going crazy. (You are not and this is normal.) I care about the people who want to travel on a budget and won't turn down a good happy hour. (Alcohol or cheesy breadsticks, I'm not here to judge.) I care about the moms and dads who feel alone and like they are doing a terrible job. (Hey Parent! You're crushing it! And also your butt looks great!)
So here it is. My blog. Ever wanted to have backyard chickens, travel on the cheap, become a parent accidentally? No? Move along then you too cool person. Hope your life brings you the most joy. But if you answered Yes? Check back in for my ramblings on those topics and honestly whatever happens to me.
Grace and Peace,
Katie
